Modeling and materializing terrain and cityscapes!

Lidar to 3D model

My best work (so far)

Vancouver BC from Lidar 🇨🇦

Wrangling gigabytes of lidar data into a manifold 3D model that bambu studio can handle is no easy task, but I've made it a lot simpler for you, make a model of anywhere in downtown Vancouver using my app 🙂

Big shoutout to the city government of Vancouver BC for their amazing open data program and also to code-fabriks las2stl repo which was the foundation for all my lidar parsing work!

Brass Mount Rainier / təqʷuʔməʔ (Taquoma)

I made this statue of rainier using a self made charcoal furnace and a custom graphite mold, warning do not attempt at home, graphite dust and vaporized zinc is toxic, and molten brass is really hot, like 1562°F / 850°C at the minimum!

A little history, nowadays when you hear Tacoma you might think about Toyota Tacoma, the Tacoma Dome, or the Tacoma aroma. The source of the name Tacoma is from the Puyallup though, it's what they've called Mount Rainier for generations, and it means mother of waters. Rainier was a British naval officer who fought against the American Revolution and never actually saw the mountain, food for thought 🤔

About me

Hi, my name is Lucas! I'm a full time software engineer focused on back-end development with Golang. I started making 3D prints and metal casts of mountains and cityscapes in the summer of 2024 for fun. After some time I started attending Maptime Seattle and CUGOS where I met a ton of other map nerds, and they inspired me to keep improving my methods. I even got to present at Maptime Seattle once! I'm at the point now where I feel like I have a lot of knowledge to share, so I made this website! If you want to discuss methods, collaboration, commission, or something random; please send an email to lucas@geographyart.com 🙂
